Aon, Gaelic for same. A truly unique pair of artworks handmade in the Bough & Bough workshop from two beautiful pieces of Irish olive ash.

This pair of boards are book-matched, cut from consecutive boards from the same tree and opened out like a book. This gives an almost identical grain pattern on each piece, the same but slightly different. Hence the name, Aon.

The body of each board has been recessed and the outer lip stained black to delineate from the natural vibrancy of the heart of the wood. Olive ash is so called when the centre of an ash tree has a rich, dark heartwood which looks similar to olive wood.

I look for character pieces of wood for my art pieces, ones with large knots or splits which make an interesting feature. If you look closely you’ll notice knots in the same place in each board and how the grain pattern flows in the same direction.

These two pieces grew side by side in the tree for over 100 years and now they can hang on your wall, side by side, for many more
